An incubator for aspiring retailers

Launched in 2021, Open with Faire (OWF) offers new store owners up to $20,000 in interest-free, 60-day payment terms to finance their inventory. The application process is streamlined, free, and designed to help retail entrepreneurs launch their businesses efficiently.

By 2023, OWF had made a significant impact on Faire’s business, contributing 11% to total GMV and demonstrating profitability. To build on this success, the company aimed to take the program to new heights.

To lead this initiative, myself and a product lead developed a strategic 2-5 year vision for OWF. Our goal was to establish OWF as the premier incubator for retail entrepreneurs, focusing not only on increasing adoption but also on reimagining its potential. After an intensive three-month research and planning phase, we created a comprehensive roadmap to achieve this vision.

Our initial target was a 3x increase in adoption. We far exceeded this goal, achieving a 7x increase and onboarding over 13,000 new retailers within two years.

  • Faire began in 2017 with a simple vision: to help small businesses come together to compete on a more level playing field with the likes of Walmart and Amazon.

    Today, Faire is the online marketplace where retailers discover their next bestsellers from independent brands across the globe.

  • As the lead designer on this project, I worked closely with a Senior PM to bring the vision to life. The project focused on research and strategy, resulting in a clear and compelling vision and a defined 12-month roadmap.

  • In under two years, we grew the program from 2,000 to over 15,000 new retailers—a 7x increase in first-time OWF participants, cementing OWF as a cornerstone of Faire’s success.
